How to Choose the Fishing Bait

 It is true that the reason behind successful fishing is manifold. From selecting the appropriate time, spot, right tackles are important but unless you know what to present to the fish as bait, you won't catch any fish. Choosing the right bait for your fish is therefore of the most important considerations. Without the right kind of bait, even seasoned anglers come back home empty handed! It is not only the years of experience but proper knowledge about what equipments to use, when and how determines what kind of a fishing trip you will have.

All fisherman start out as bait fisherman and later on they move to lure fishing with more advanced techniques. Most fishermen will also agree that fishing with live bait is more effective than the outcome with that of the artificial lures. Bait fishing is cheaper. The type and size of baits may vary and it might get a little confusing, but if you know what exactly to use for the fish you are targeting, you will have it easy. The fish type, the area you are planning to go angling, the time of the day, the weather are factors that exert an impact on the varieties of baits.



Now that you have made plans to go fishing, just make sure you understand the basics of bait fishing so that you can make your trip more memorable. The bait that you select must be in accordance to the water that you will be fishing in! You possible cannot use bass fishing baits for saltwater fishing, and vice versa. So, the water type should be your first consideration.

How will you choose from the myriad types of baits- both live and artificial? The clue is the fish you are eyeing. For example, we use boilies and dough baits for carp and not live worms, or stink baits for catfish. You have to understand what the fish will bite. But also remember to check with the local fishing regulations, in case there is a restriction of using certain baits. The environment you are fishing in will also give you a cue as to what bait to use. Worms, leeches, crayfish, crickets and minnows are ideal baits if you are angling in freshwater bodies like the rivers, streams and lakes. But use crabs, shrimps, squids, sea worms, eels and cut baits if you are angling in the saltwater.
